A convenient, plug-and-play cable, the In-line Digital Thermal Sensor eliminates fan noise and maintains proper system fan control through the iMac's System Management Controller. This innovative device is designed specifically for the iMac, requires no software hacks and ensures compatibility with Apple's built-in diagnostic processes.

The NewerTech AdaptaDrive has been benchmark test proven to deliver the same data transfer rates as is experienced when a drive is connected directly to the SATA data bus. The AdaptaDrive doesn't create a bottleneck or any performance throttling...it delivers pure data pass-through performance and drive use convenience from any 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s, 3Gb/s, or 3Gb/s hard drive or SSD.

Please note, that before attempting to perform this installation, it is recommended you watch the associated instructional video in its entirety to determine your ability to perform this complex procedure. OWC assumes no responsibility for damage that may occur during the install.

However, we are looking into supporting this feature in the future via a firmware update. Firmware updates can be found here: http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/OWC/SSD.

The best warranty is one you never have to use - but should the need occur - we're proud to provide a superior level of support and service coverage to our customers.

OWC DIY Bundle with Mercury Electra SSD to swap main HDD for SSD on late 2009 to Mid 2010 iMacs

Everything required arrived promptly and was relatively straight forward to replace - I’m very happy with the new SSD drive - the only issue I had was with the fan constantly running after the replacement, this was sorted by downloading a piece of software called Macs Fan Control - iMac running great now

OWC 500GB OWC MERCURY ELECTRA 3G SSD AND HDD DIY BUNDLE KIT FOR 2009 - 2010 IMAC

Posted by Martin on 6th Sep 2021

Used this kit to replace the broken hard drive on my Mac. Watched the instruction video first and then just replayed it and followed the instructions, stopping and starting the video as I went along. Very easy to complete. I re loaded the OS by using internet recovery mode (starting the computer holding down the Command and R buttons until you see the internet recovery download start. It would advise against using Wifi to do this, better to move the Mac next to the router and wire your Mac directly into it. The solid state drive is super fast compared to the oil one. From pushing the start up button I can have my internet home screen up in about 40 seconds. This is a very cost effective option to restore an older Mac.

    Worked on first attempt

Posted by Antti Hietala on 9th Feb 2021

The kit was easy to install. I recommend watching the instructional video. Reserve couple of hours time for the job, including installing OS X on the new drive. The SSD was formatted but not with the correct format (Mac OS Extended Journaled). I had to reformat it with Disk Util before I was able to install OS X High Sierra. My old iMac is now like new again and should serve a few more years.

    500GB SSD

The parts were fine and I was able to assemble and connect to my iMac. Unfortunately it has not resolved a deeper problem. I have removed the SSD and will use it in a case as a supplementary external drive.
